Prayer Faces

Filmed in and around Skyline UMC from September 17 to October 3, 2007. This project involved taping six 20-minute interviews in various locations (four indoor and two outdoor) using the PD-150 and a wired Audio-Technica Pro 70 lav. For two of the interviews, I used the reflector (silver side) for fill (with the sun as key or backlight). For two others, I used a simple lighting setup (Filtered Omni Key and Rifa-44 fill) for two subjects with glasses (the high angle avoided reflections).

I had some trouble with wind noise for one of the outdoor interviews, and should have used lighting in one of the indoor interviews (fixed in post). Also had some focus problems with one of the interviews, but the problem was not a show-stopper. I continue to experience problems with the push focus in manual. For one of the outdoor interviews, I had uniform, overcast light, which washed my subject a bit. For the other, the sun went in and out of the clouds, and made my subject squint at times.

I was excited to use the Adobe CS3 Production Sutie Premium for post-production, along with a newly installed Matrox RT.X2 (SD) card. My graphics card makes for jumpy pre-rendered reviews, but the overall experience was incredible. I'm more pleased with the overall Adobe suite than ever.

Because I had no B-roll to work with, I had to intersperse shots with black screens, some of which I titled. Overall, this had an interesting effect, because it allowed for viewers to reflect on each statement.

Project involved a total of 20 hours, running 3:44.
