Mail Call

I've attached the only recent
photo I have of me with my family - taken last summer at my folk's place in
Montana. I also included a picture of me with my brother biking in Colorado
(I'm on the left) and one of me fishing last fall - looks like we both have
that pirate look going, eh?
We live in San Diego, my wife's name is "Vicky" ;-) (We'll be celebrating
our 19th anniversary in September) and my children are Pauli (13), Carli
(10) and Audri (2).
I'm looking forward to seeing you this fall.
Best,

What a pleasant surprise to get your e-mail. I'll
spare the bio, but stick to what I'm doing now. Like you, I did not stay in
for a career. Resigned in 1991 upon completion of 5-year commitment. Went
to law school in (of all places) Wilmington, Delaware, at Widener (or
Harvard of the Brandywine as we affectionately called it). Graduated in
1994, thought I wanted to be a prosecutor and lock up bad guys. Ended up as
a public defender instead, love it! Tried private practice for 2 years,
hated it, went back to being a p.d. Still love it. I live in Va. Beach,
but work in Suffolk, 2 cities away. While getting out of the Navy, my other
thought was I was going to become a teacher. Now I get to scratch that itch
as in addition to p.d. by day, I do adjunct teaching in criminal justice at
some local colleges. Love that job , too. So, I consider myself blessed to
have two different jobs, both of which I enjoy.
Married Sondra in 1992, two daughters Emily (10)
and Nancy (7) who are the light of my life.
See you in October. Let me know if you bring
the pop-up to Va. Beach.

P.S. My actual hometown is Weymouth, MA. I said
Boston because I figured it was easier for classmates to remember. You
obviously don't remember Jerry Doyle ('84) arriving with the return of the
Brigade and tearing into me for "approximating" my hometown. |
Bo,
Good to hear from you. Will send pictures. I'm
still active (LtCol), doing acquisition work at NAVAIR in Pax River MD.
Donnie Bouchard lives a few miles away from me and he keeps me up to date on
just about everything. We went to Ivan's retirement last year. Ran into
Meat at the Navy-MD game last year. Ran into Sam in Okinawa late 2003/early
2004.

Bo,
Yes it is me.
Thanks for the update. I will
do the same when I have a moment. In London on business right now.
I took a quick look at the
youngster year picture. Scary how young we were.
My wife, Elizabeth, and I are
planning to attend the reunion.
Best regards,
Tom Furlong |

Bo and Eric,
Thanks for the update and offers of
help. I'm in Korea for an exercise now, but will send out the revised
list as soon as I return (end of next week). I've narrowed down the list
of missing (no e-mail addresses) graduates to the following:
Doug
Cooper, Tim Duncan, Eric Goodman, Miles Riley, Dan Shannon
Any help in getting e-mail addresses for
these gents is appreciated.
Norm Cooling deployed to Iraq with his
battalion, 3rd Battalion/3rd Marines. Norm had already led the battalion
in a very successful deployment to Afghanistan and they were called to
return to the Mid-East again. It is a reflection to the quality of men
and women in our military that over 100 Marines extended their contracts
to make the second deployment. Although Norm is quick to give all of the
credit to his Marines, I know that his leadership is a major part of the
battalion's success. I'll forward his deployed address when I get it. In
the meantime, keep Norm, his family, and his Marines in your prayers and
raise a glass to their success.
Sam Kirby will take command of a F/A-18
squadron in the next few weeks in Beaufort. Bryan and Laura Semple are
heading down for the change of command. All of us had the chance to meet
in Japan and it made me look forward to the reunion. Leslie and I are
planning to come out and look forward to seeing you all.
Semper Fi,
Jim Durand

Gentlemen,
Greetings from Hadithah. Good
to see the old gang communicating again. Like Dan, I won’t be back from
deployment in time to attend the reunion. We don’t return until October.
But, I’ll certainly be thinking of you guys and hope that you’ll tip a few
for me.
Semper Fidelis,
Norm

All, still in command of ROSS -- deploying this
spring and won't be back in time for the reunion. Pls keep me up to date
on plans for the event.
For Bo, I've attached a photo of my 8 year-old in
my bridge wing chair for the website.
Family info: Kim (met in San Diego
in 1988; married in Lakewood WA in 1993). George (arrived on brother Jake's
birthday (13 April) in 1997, as Tiger was walking down the 18th fairway --
Kim had to clear her throat loudly to get the OB's attention). Andrew
(arrived 17 Oct 2002. Excellent help in the kitchen). Navy (Yellow Lab -
mid-deployment 2000. Surprise!) Buster (Boston / Rat Terrier - bought with
George's birthday money. May deploy with the ship.)

Hi Gang,
Great to hear from everyone. I'm in contact with
Bart, and I'll try to get an updated email address for him and forward it to
everyone. My wife, Rebecca, and I have 4 children (11, 9, 5, and 2) and have
been living in south-eastern WA state for the last 5 yrs. Still trying to
work things out regarding the reunion - there are some other travel
obligations I have around the same time. Sure would like to see everyone
again. Go Navy!
Best Wishes,
Brad |
