Meeting 1 – Core Values

During our Jan. 3 meeting, we identified five core values through stories we told about how God has been present to us through the ministry of Whatcoat Church. The Minutes record the five most important values we shared:

  1. Accepting – Romans 15:7 Accept one another, then, just as Christ accepted you, in order to bring praise to God.
  2. Growing – 2 Thessalonians 1:3 We ought always to thank God for you, brothers and sisters, and rightly so, because your faith is growing more and more, and the love all of you have for one another is increasing.
  3. Relational – Philippians 2:5 In your relationships with one another, have the same mindset as Christ Jesus….
  4. WelcomingMark 9:37 Whoever welcomes one of these little children in my name welcomes me; and whoever welcomes me does not welcome me but the one who sent me.
  5. Spiritual – 1 Peter 2:5 …you also, like living stones, are being built into a spiritual house to be a holy priesthood, offering spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ.

The Minutes also list the partial results of a Church and Personal Core Values Audit some of our members too to identify Core Values. The results of this survey are supplemental to the values we discerned through our stories because the more self-conscious format leads to the identification of aspirational values at the expense of actual ones, and because not all of our members completed the surveys.
